Upgraded Wellness
Screening
We are very
impressed with our  new ECG
machine. We have had it for a
while and are now getting
much more able to use it to
obtain some dynamite results.
Hopefully your pet will not have
any cardiac problems that
require an ECG
(electrocardiogram) which
measures the electrical activity
of the heart. Just in case we
do have it available for urgent
care and we also use it for
some routine screening of our
senior patients.
Winter 2009 News
New Staff!         We have
added two new staff members in the past
few months to replace Whitney Phipps and
Kristen Percich who have left us to attend
the University of Missouri Collge of
Veterinary Medicine. These new members
of our health care team have been with us
for a few months so many of our clients
have already had the opportunity to meet
Jessica Brummel and Angela Gray. It is
always challenging for new staff at
Normandy Animal Hospital due to the very
high level of medicine and client service
that is delivered. Both Jess and Angela
have risen to the challenge and become
very valued team members. For more
information about both visit our staff page.
Seasonal Hazards                                Each season has its own hazards. Winter
is no exception. It is important to continue flea, tick and heartworm prevention  all year. With cold
weather it is critical to make certain your pets have proper warm shelter, enough good quality
food and access to clean unfrozen water. Also be very cautious of frostbite and hypothermia.
With the extreme temperatures we recently encountered we have treated some cases of
hypothemia (low body temperature due to chilling). Be very careful if walking your dog to avoid
slipping on the ice and to avoid chemicals used to melt the ice. They are not only irritating
topically but can also cause gastrointestinal upset if your pet licks significant quantities off the
paws. The chemicals will melt the ice to temperatures as low as 10 degrees Farenheit thus
making a super cold solution which can cause almost instant frostbite of the paws.
I'm a bit fuzzy about the
news. Please fill me in
on what's happening.

FLEAS!!!
Even though it is Winter we had a HUGE flea outbreak in November and
are still dealing with it. Even though it has frozen outside it has not frozen
inside the house. We have also seen numerous failures of the over the
counter spot on flea products sold in discount stores, pet stores, grocery
stores and from the net. We recommend and sell only top drawer excellent
products that carry full manufacturer warranty. We will advise you on
correct use of the products and make certain that you are addressing the
entire problem properly.

It may well not be necessary for use in relatively isolated dogs.
Please call our office today at (314) 383-4677 and Dr. Goman
will discuss the Pros and Cons with you. You will then be able to
make the best decision for the care of your beloved pet.

come but for you baseball fans Spring Training is starting which
means spring cannot be too far away. Remember to provide your pets
and livestock with access to water (not frozen), shelter and plenty of
